LEARN Library and information skills

How do you find out what information and library resources are available? and how to access them and use them effectively? By coming to a library orientation session, or taking a tour or tutorial online.

Student learning about call numbers in a Library tutorial. Library orientation sessions for your class

All our libraries offer library orientations at the beginning of each semester. These practical sessions focus on the relevant information sources for your programme. They take about 40 minutes and are in class time. You don’t need to book, your lecturers will arrange these sessions. Check your programme's orientation day schedule.

If you miss out your class session see the online tours and tutorials below. Plus at any time you can ask for help at the Library deskĀ or you can make an appointment to meet a librarian and ask about the library services.

Tutorials tailored to class assignments

Further into the semester, your lecturer should organise a tutorial for your class with a librarian, either in the library, or in your classroom or lab. These tutorials focus on your current assignment. We will help you to get started on it by showing you how to find relevant books, journal articles and high-quality websites.

We run workshops throughout the year. Click here to register your interest. Alternatively, please email libinfo@unitec.ac.nz or speak to your Knowledge Specialist to discuss tailored sessions for your class.
